YummyLumba: Butcher's Den

I havn't really been impressed by any of the new restaurants that opened in the past couple of months, so going to the Butcher's Den was a breath of fresh air. As soon as we walked in, the staff were polite and seated us at a table. Apparently you can make reservations which isn't the case for the other restaurants in bidi3 as far as I know.

When we sat down we were given some cotton candy, no idea why but I loved it! Waaaay better than a bread basket in my opinion since it doesn't fill you up. The menu is pretty varied but not so huge that you can't make a decision, I hate restaurants that have a book for a menu, its makes it so hard to choose what to eat, and usually they chefs arn't capable of cooking all those dishes very well.

P.S. Whats fluffier? The cotton candy or my friend Abdullah's arm hair? Heheheh :p

For appetizers we ordered the Buratta and the Mac & Goat Cheese. The Buratta was yummy you could tell the ingredients were very fresh, it was huuuuuge though I couldn't eat more than half of it, so I suggest it if you want to share an appetizer. The Mac & Goat Cheese was really good, the goat cheese made regular mac and cheese (which I looooooove) even tastier!

For our mains we ordered the Wagyu Burger and the Argentina Beef Fillet, the burger melted in your mouth, it was soooo good, while I do believe that going to a steak house and ordering a burger is a bit of waste this one was totally worth it! Though I was a bit jealous when they brought Abdullah a tray of colored steak knives so he could choose one. (He went with the flourescent yellow btw)

We were of course not going to leave there without trying out the dessert. Our waitress let us know when we first placed our orders that some of the desserts take 20 minutes so we should pre-order them, granted we were so stuffed by the time dessert arrived that I would not have minded waiting 20 minutes for my food to digest. We ordered the Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies and Chocolate Chip Waffles with Ice Cream. The desserts were good and they did the job, but they were not wow. But it also might have been coz we were really full from the other food we had eaten.

Besides the food I would like to say that the look of the restaurant was really well done and thought out, I would have taken a picture but there were lots of people and I didn't want to freak anyone out. I definitely recommend Butcher's Den and will be going back there, especially since they take reservations so you don't have to be put on a waiting list and wait for a table etc.

Enjoy! :)

Review: Container 75

Okay so I am kinda nervous because this is gonna be my first negative review of a place, but since I have always said that I have the most respect for bloggers that are honest about their opinions and don't just say nice things about everything so everyone likes them I must do the same.

To begin with I wasn't even planning on going to Container 75, I was planning on going to En Mexicana. A friend of mine recommended it and since he is what I would call a "food connoisseur" I figured I had to try it (btw he recommended the Portabello and Gouda Quessadilla). Annywaaaysss they were full and there was a 30 minute waiting list...I was hungry...very hungry. So my friend and I saw Container 75 next door and figured what the heck lets give it a try.

First of all I would like to say the concept was not bad. It looks like a shipping container from the outside, on the inside most of the surfaces were black with chalk writing and drawings on them. I think you can ask for chalk and draw on the walls yourself if the urge strikes you. Of course in order to ask for chalk you would have to hunt down a waiter. This was the first thing that frustrated me, whenever we wanted a waiter it took forever to find one. Let me remind you...I was hungry...very hungry.

Now to the food, we ordered the Sweet Chilli Fries, these I really liked, there were bits of pepper in there, it was sweet and tangy at the same time, very yummy. But we also ordered six sliders to share and this is where things went downhill for me. Their sliders were not really small like the sliders I'm used to but they wern't really full sized burgers either. In my opinion they were gresy and did not taste all that good. As a disclaimer I will say that I am not a fan of greasy food, I also don't like Maki coz I think their food is really greasy whereas I know tonnes of people love Maki and its a super successful restaurant chain. So if you like that kind of food then give Container 75 a shot. I personally like to taste all the different ingredients in the food I'm eating and feel the crunch of the lettuce in my burger I don't like it when the taste of the food is overpowered by the taste of the grease and sauce thats in it. We didn't finish the sliders we ate four and left two, meh.

So that's just my opinion, if you want to give Container 75 a try, its located in Jabriya on the same street as Early Bird and En Mexicana. They have outdoor seating too which in this weather is really nice.

P.S. I really need to start taking my camera with me to places and learn to take better pictures, these phone pictures combined with my amateur picture taking capabilities just arnt cutting it :p

YummyLumba: Tatami Brunch

For those of you who don't know Tatami is a Japanese restaurant location in Kuwait City. I gotta admit I havn't been to Tatami since it first opened, I wasn't very impressed by my first impressions so I didn't go back. But a friend of mine told me that their new brunch menu was good so I figured that I would give it a shot and I must say I was pleasantly surprised.

Brunch was on a set menu with taster portions, so instead of ordering a couple of main dishes you order four items that are smaller in size. The menu had quite a few interesting items on it. I took a picture coz I knew I would never remember the names of the stuff I ordered :p

I ordered the Tatami Style Eggs Benedict for my first dish, it was very tasty but it was a bit cold, when the owner came around and asked us how everything was I let her know. I gotta say I love it when the owners are there and interact with the customers, it really gives it that personal touch.

The next thing was the Okonomiyaki, I ordered the one with the Shitaake mushroom, which was yummy as well. Though not as yummy as the sandwiches, which you may have noticed I forgot to take a picture off, adri ana 2afa, ba6ni ahem min pictures! Especially when I'm hungry @_@

Below you will find a picture of the most delicious thing I had there, the WAFFLES!!! I also started in on these before i remembered to take a pic, but I couldnt help myself they smelled sooo good! I was drooooling :p~~ Anyways the waffles are made with Shokupan which is apparently a type of Japanese sandwich bread, its a nice change from the brioche french toast you find in most brunch places.

Overall I have to say I enjoyed the food, the taster menu isn't going to be there for much longer they are going to have the same items but on a regular menu so when you order a dish it comes in full sized portions. So in conclusion (I'm rambling I know) I would definitely recommend the brunch menu at Tatami :)

YummyLumba: Ubon

I was talking with my friend the other day and telling him how there wasn't any good Thai food like we used to get in our college town, he then recommended Ubon to me saying their Green Curry (my favorite Thai dish) was great.

So I went that night to check it out.

First of all I would like to say the fact that they have their location on Google Maps is awesome! More restaurants should do this, especially if they are in some random location in the city. One click on the link on their website and BAM!!! I have their location on my phone!

The feel of the restaurant was very nice. Contemparary, good chil music. One of the owners was there and came to check up on us. That for me is always a good sign, when an owner cares enough to be at the restaurant and check up on the customers. My one criticism is that the waiters need a little more training on how to serve the food without leaning over the customers.

Now time for the food; this my first restaurant review so I totally inhaled the appetizers without thinking to take a picture of them :p my bad! But I had the Papaya Salad, it was delicious! My friend had the Prawn Coconut soup which he said he would recommend as well.

Garlic Pepper Beef

My friend ordered the Garlic Pepper Beef which I of course stole a bite of MWHAHAHAHAH! It was yummy!

Chicken Green CurryI of course ordered the Chicken Green Curry!!!!...with a side of steamed rice! It HIT THE SPOT!

So to summarize I highly recommend people try Ubon especially if you have a hankering for Thai food.

P.S. Check out the faucet in the bathroom, it comes down from the ROOF!

Go! Go! Vimto!

According to Arabian Business everybody's favorite drink Vimto did really well last year. Sales were up 18% for 2011, and the MENA region crossed the 30 million bottle mark for the first time ever! Apparently the Middle East has been drinking Vimto for more than 80 years, I didn't realize that it was that old!

I was pretty impressed by the numbers, but considering how my neice and nephews chug the stuff down like its going out of style I'm not surprised.

I found some amazing pics done by an artist Hythem Daham on Khaleejesque which are definitely worth checking out.

Hmmm...now I'm thirsty :)
